Getting Started with Inquiry to Quote

During the tender phase, a Sales Rep often needs to produce a quote for the same Project for several different companies — each with its own pricing, product mix, and document language. Inquiry to Quote streamlines that: one Inquiry captures who is asking, a Bill of Quantities (BOQ) captures what’s being priced, and a Project Quote is generated from it in a single step.

The process, end to end

  1. Create an Inquiry (Inquiry__c) — records which Contact/Participant is asking for a quote, on which Project. See Handle Inquiry to create a Quote.
  2. Build a Bill of Quantities (BOQ) — a BOQ__c header with BOQ_Line__c positions and BOQ_Calculation__c product-level entries underneath each position. Either:
    • Build it manually — see Create BOQ manually.
    • Import it from a GAEB x81 file — the standard German construction-tender exchange format — which parses the file directly into BOQ Lines and Calculations. See Import GAEB x81 File as BOQ.
  3. Generate the Project Quote from the BOQ in one action (BOQQuotation_CreateQuoteFromBOQ_API — “Create Project Quote from BOQ”): every BOQ_Line__c becomes a Project_Quote_Group__c, every BOQ_Calculation__c becomes a Project_Quote_Line__c, and an aggregated Project_Quote_Position__c is created per unique product across the whole quote. If individual account pricing is enabled, a configurable pricing plugin recalculates final prices at this step.
  4. Generate the customer-facing document — a PDF, or a GAEB x84 export if that’s enabled for your org. See Document Generation for BOQ and Quote.
